Program Outline
Comprehensive research in communication (Communication study)
The UCLA Center for Language, Interaction, and Culture (CLIC)
is a comprehensive communication research facility with which we have realized
an excellent collaboration in anthropology and its related areas in terms
of both theory and personnel exchanges. During this project, we intend to
introduce this mode of collaboration with CLIC into ASAFAS.
Since ASAFAS Honorary Professor TANAKA Jiro began his anthropological research
on the San people (Bushmen) in the 1960s, ASAFAS researchers have engaged
in long-term cross-disciplinary research in Botswana, southern Africa. In
this project, in cooperation with the University of Botswana, these outstanding
research accomplishments will be passed on and developed as we aim for an
understanding of the “area” through comprehensive communication research
which is grounded in longitudinal field work.
