Program Outline
Cross-disciplinary education and research with a practical orientation
The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University
of London is one of the world’s largest research institutes and has achieved
exemplary accomplishments in a wide range of educational and research fields
related to the whole Asian and African area since the age of colonial rule
under the British Empire. At SOAS, we intend to research into the methodologies
for fusing academic research related to an area with political science.
Thus far, we have collaborated with Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU)
on projects to foster area experts. In this project, we intend in addition
to push forward a bilateral fostering of young researchers (young researchers
from ASAFAS studying at TNAU and young TNAU researchers studying at ASAFAS).
In order to promote education and research with a practical orientation,
we intend to strengthen our relations with the University of Zambia. The
Institute of Economic and Social Research (INESOR), University of Zambia
has evolved from the Rhodes-Livingstone Institute, established as a base
of implementation of British applied anthropology. In joint research with
the University of Zambia, while making comparisons with the above-mentioned
Indian example, we intend to pursue the characteristics of development in
Africa as we push forward a bilateral fostering of young researchers.
