Prof. Shuichi Oyama was selected for the 31st Konosuke Matsushita Foundation of Expo ‘90 Green and Flower Prize.
Prof. Shuichi Oyama of the Division of African Area Studies has been selected for the 31st Konosuke Matsushita Expo ‘90 Green and Flower Prize from the Konosuke Matsushita Foundation.
The Konosuke Matsushita Expo ’90 Green and Flower Prize recognizes the outstanding academic research and practical activities that contribute to the realization of the basic philosophy of Expo ’90, “The Harmonious Coexistence of Nature and Mankind”.
The awarded achievement is “Save the Earth with Garbage: The Origin of Agriculture and the “Dump-Heap Theory”. Prof. Oyama and his team collect garbage in urban areas such as Niamey metropolitan, the capital of the Republic of Niger in the Sahel region. They use the garbage for greening in order to tackle the land degradation, and to harmonize the relationship between farmers and pastoral people. The slogan is “Cleaning the cities, greening the land.”
